Installing Calc

Windows95/98/ME/2000/XP

To install from the CD, insert it into the drive and the setup program should run automatically. If not, you can run the file "Setup.exe" in the top-level directory of the CD. The setup program gives you options to install the various versions of Calc or to perform miscellaneous other tasks. Select install. You will be given a number of options to install Calc on the PC or on a Windows CE device. After selecting the platform, follow the instructions to install the software. The Windows versions will result in files being installed on your PC.

If you have downloaded the files, or obtained them from a third party disk, such as a magazine cover disk, the Calc files are compressed either as a self-extracting

zip file (C98xxxx.exe) or as a zip file (C98xxxx.zip).

Self-extracting files can be unpacked by running the file

(e.g. by double-clicking the icon).

You can choose the directory where you want the files to go,

or use the default (recommended). Otherwise, the files can

be unpacked using a utility such as zip, WinZip or PKUNZIP.

The self-extracting zip file will run a setup utility which

will add shortcuts to your Start menu or desktop. If this

does not run automatically you can start it by double-clicking

on setup.exe in the Calc directory.

Once the files are unpacked, Calc is ready to run. You can do this

by double clicking on the file CALC.EXE from "My Computer" or Explorer,

or using the shortcuts installed by setup.exe. You can also manually

drag CALC.EXE onto the desktop to create a shortcut. You can right click

on the Start button, select Open, and drag CALC.EXE onto the Program folder

(or another folder if you prefer) to add Calc to the Start menu.

Calc Directory

It is suggested that you keep all the Calc files together in their own

directory. If you subsequently move the Calc component files around,

make sure Calc is run from its own directory, otherwise it may not be

able to locate some of the support files (e.g. FACTORY.PRP and help files).

Uninstalling Calc

If you need to remove Calc from your system, use the uninstall program in the Calc directory or program group, which will automatically uninstall Calc. You can also use the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel. You should then select Calc from the list of programs to uninstall and follow the instructions.

WindowsNT

Insert the Calc the disk into the drive and run the SET-UP program on

the disk. You can do this from the DOS prompt, or you can run it by double-clicking

on SETUP.EXE in File Manager. Follow the instructions in the Setup Wizard

to complete the installation.

Windows3.x

16-bit operating systems, such as Windows3.1, are not supported by Calc.

There is a 16-bit version of Calc95 which can be downloaded from our web

site or from numerous archive sites, if you need to run a calculator program

on Windows3.x.

If you have the Calc CD, you will find the file "Calc16s.exe" stored in the directory "distrib". Copy this file to the directory where you want to install Calc95, then run by double-clicking or right-mouse-click and select "Open". The self-extracting zip file will then install the software. Further instructions can be found in the readme file in the directory where the software is installed.

WindowsCE (including Pocket PC)

We recommend that you back up your WindowsCE device before

starting.

to be copied to your device. By default, the self-extracting

file will start this process automatically, provided

you are running an up-to-date version of ActiveSync on your

PC. Otherwise you may need to double-click on setup.exe in the

directory where the files were installed on your PC and follow

the directions. ActiveSync is available from Microsoft and

is normally supplied with the device. If you are upgrading Calc

it may warn you that the application is already installed, and you

will need to confirm that you want to re-install. Once installed,

Calc should appear in Start/Programs.

If you are unable to use the setup program for any reason you will

need to transfer the files manually.

The application files are compressed in a "cab" file (C98XXXXX.cab).

This file should be copied onto your device e.g. using the ActiveSync Explorer.

Once transferred, you need to run the cab

file on the device. You can either use File Explorer on the device

to navigate to the file, or install it into

the directory MyDevice/Windows/Start Menu which makes

it appear in the Start Menu on the device. When you

run the cab file the calculator is installed on the device.

You can then run it from the shortcuts in the Start Menu or

in Programs.

The files are actually installed in the directory

MyDevice/Program Files/Calc98CE. A simple help file

is installed but the full help files are in the CalcHelp

directory which is on the CD or on your PC (if you downloaded) in the directory Program Files/Calc98x. We suggest you use a browser

on your PC to read these, rather than transferring them to the device, because they are

quite large. The starting point is CalcHelp/index.htm.

If you prefer to install them on the device,

you will need to copy the whole CalcHelp directory to the

MyDevice/Program Files/Calc98CE directory on the device.

Manually configuring shortcuts to Calc

If needed, you can carry out the following steps either using

the Mobile Device Explorer on your PC, or possibly on the device itself

if supported. Use the Edit/Copy menu command to make a copy of the

Calc.exe file in your CalcCE directory. Now go to MyPocketPC\Windows\StartMenu.

Use the Edit/Paste Shortcut menu command to create a shortcut, and rename

it to Calc.

Removing the shortcut to the standard WindowsCE calculator

If you wish, you can delete the shortcut to the Calculator

supplied with WindowsCE in MyPocketPC\Windows\StartMenu\Programs,

or replace it with a shortcut to Calc. On HPC devices you can also create

a shortcut in HandHeldPC\Windows\Desktop.

Uninstalling Calc

To uninstall on Windows CE you can either use the ActiveSync Add/Remove Programs feature on your PC, or remove it on the device using Start/Settings/System/Remove Programs and select Flow Simulation Calc.

Copying Calc to another device

To copy the application to another device "Send" the cab

file using the IR port. Provided the other device uses

the same or a compatible CPU you can then run the cab

file on the other device to install the application.

The cab file is automatically deleted from the device during

installation, so if you want to use it again you need

to make it read-only.

Casio BE300

We recommend that you back up your BE300 before starting.

If you prefer to install them on the device,

Calc98 directory on the device.

You may also decide not to install the file factory.prp for the

same reason, and to improve the start-up performance. If

you do not install factory.prp you will only have the limited set of units

conversions that are built in to the program. On the newer devices

the storage is probably not an issue.

Removing the standard WindowsCE calculator

If you wish, you can delete the shortcut to the Calculator

supplied with WindowsCE in the Start Menu to replace it with Calc98.

To do this, select "Calculator" from the Start Menu, click on "Edit"

in the top left-hand

corner of the screen, and select "Delete Application".

Uninstalling Calc98

To remove the application from the device, go to the

Start Menu, select Calc98, then click on "Edit"

in the top left-hand

corner of the screen, and select "Delete Application".
